Learning is a process of understanding knowledge or any info through seeing, reading, hearing via an inner voice, or outside sound come inside ears than the new info been process by our brain and keep in short term memory. Since short term memory is temporary its requires enrichment to save it into a more long-lasting memory. Based on the learning pyramid below:
The learning pyramid or also known as “the pyramid of retention” is a popular learning model relating to different degrees of retention induced from various types of learning. The representations are generally via percentages and 7 layers within a "pyramid of learning" A pyramid model was developed by the National Training Laboratories Institute in the early 1960s, on its main campus in Bethel, Maine, USA |
The learning process basically can be divided into 2 which is
1) Passive Learning Methods encompasses:
1.1 Listenings to a lecture the retention rate 5%,
1.2 Reading 10%,
1.3 Watch audiovisual such as watch videos, animation 20%
1.4 Watch demonstration like seeing real people showing how to carry out experiment 30%
and for no 2) Participatory Teaching Methods which is:
2.1 Group discussion 50% - each member of the group explaining each subtopic
2.2 Practice by doing 75% - practical approach to feel it own or real experience conducting own experiment.
2.3 Teach others 90% - teach someone else using own understanding of any topics
Therefore, to learn effectively you can combine a few of the learning approaches such as group discussion plus teach others or any other combination to actively learn.
On the other hand, you can first summarize the topic you read on a piece of paper, highlighting only key points or ideas, and then from that, you teach others.
